PummerFlies
This is a silly little electronics project “just for the fun of it.” Borrowing from the Solarbotics’ concept of “Pummers” — solar-powered blinking LED devices that flash the LED on full-force then fade out — and a “firefly jar” project I’d seen somewhere else on the ‘net (I’ll provide proper attribution once I find it again :)), I intend to suspend a few SMD LEDs inside of a small glass jar, such that they’ll charge during the day and as it starts getting dark in the evening, the LEDs will start randomly pumming (as it were).
The caveat: I’m not certain how to handle the “random” effect, nor how I’m going to stash all of the electronics in the lid of the jar. But I figured it’d be a neat little project to learn a bit more about electronics, and the kids would get a kick out of it, so why not?
